“Inspiration is the inner light that reflects itself upon the heart of man; the purer the heart is from rust, like a clean mirror, the more inspiration can be reflected in it. To receive inspiration, the heart should be prepared by proper training.” — Hazrat Inayat Khan
What if our hero is us? To experience this we might have to imagine the pull of the future as a motivation and feel into what it means to detach from the push of the past. Our hero lies in the depth of our own heart where we may find the surety we seek. Meeting our inner hero invites a change in view that opens our awareness to the essence of life so that we may live in a state of unity.
This workbook is designed to facilitate this shift. There is a knowledge that one learns from outer life, and there is a knowledge that one draws from within, which may be called gnosis. Mystics have told us that gnosis makes the heart self-revealing. This revealing is what holy beings of the world have spoken of, it is the knowledge that frees the soul to see what already is.
There is a reward for choosing this form of knowledge. For the one who opens the doors of their heart, the soul becomes in contact with all of nature. One finds nature singing, dancing, and communicating. This is no legend, nor is it a story of the past. The saints spoke with the trees and so can we. It is a fact, it is natural, and it is the same today as it ever was. Souls are timeless, and in all times souls are of the same nature. What obstructs us from seeing aliveness is a lack of confidence that has us focus in the wrong directions. We have become material by closing our eyes to what is before us. We have turned our back on nature to live in an artificial world.
“We can be saints and sages today just as we have been in the past. Are the stars not the same as they have always been? These stars communicate just as they always have. They speak to the one who is able to understand them.” — HIK
Mystics say that the obtainment of this freedom is the object of life. Each travels the path by learning from what’s been left behind by others and by finding their unique way. In the pages to follow The Innernaut invites you into his way of reaching gnosis, which is through dream.
What is presented in this workbook is a small selection of dreams from more than 5,000 nights of dreaming that the Innernaut has recorded. For each he went into a dream by letting go of what the ego had learned, focusing on the here and now and the immensity of space beyond space and infinity beyond time. The Innernaut distinguishes two kinds of dreams: meditation dreams and sleep dreams. The later occurred during sleep, while the former happened in a state of meditation.
To expand your sense of who you are, we invite you to travel along with our intrepid Innernaut and find your own pathway through a universe that is, a wise person once described as having, a center that is everywhere and a circumference that is nowhere.
